Lansing Lugnuts News Release
EASTLAKE, Ohio - The Lansing Lugnuts (17-16, 59-44) scored two runs in the ninth to tie the game against the Lake County Captains (14-18, 50-50), but Yu-Cheng Chang ripped a walk-off RBI single in the 10th to sting the Lugnuts, 7-6, Wednesday at Classic Park.
Mark Biggs (Loss, 2-3) started off the 10th with a strikeout, but a wild pitch allowed Bobby Bradley to reach first. After a walk and a sac bunt moved Bradley to third, Chang tagged the ball high against the right field wall for the win.
A combination of hits and blunders allowed the Lugnuts to force extras. The first three Lugnuts batters reached base in the ninth, including Austin Davis' RBI single to bring Lansing within one.
With runners on the corners and Chris Carlson batting, Nick Pasquale balked in the game-tying run. Pasquale tossed two wild pitches and hit a batter before Caleb Hamrick (Win, 4-1) came in and shut down Lansing for the final out of the ninth. Hamrick finished his outing with a scoreless 10th.
The Lugnuts trailed 6-1 before mounting a five-run comeback, and strong relief pitching kept Lansing in the game.
Dusty Isaacs turned up the heat on the Captains in relief, striking out the first four batters he faced. In three innings, Isaacs tied a professional high with six strikeouts. Biggs worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings before giving up the walk-off single.
Meanwhile, starter Chase Mallard allowed four runs in a troublesome fourth, giving up five hits to increase Lake County's lead to five runs. He gave up six runs in four innings and struck out four.
D.J. Davis provided the only surge against Lake County starter Jordan Milbrath with a solo home run that curved fair down the right field line.
The Lugnuts' offense began to churn in the seventh against Cameron Hill, scoring two in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Hill allowed four hits, including an RBI single to Austin Davis in the seventh. In seven games with the Lugnuts, Davis has three RBIs.
Juan Kelly brought in his fifth RBI of the season with a groundout to cut the lead to three in the seventh.
Lansing plays its final game of the regular season at Classic Park Thursday at 7 p.m. The 2015 Pan Am Games Gold Medalist and MWL wins leader Shane Dawson (12-4, 2.85) matches another southpaw, Sean Brady (7-7, 3.62).
The six-game swing continues until August 3 before the Lugs come back to Cooley Law School Stadium August 4 for a pair of three-game series against Wisconsin and Beloit. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
