Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - The Beloit Snappers ended up falling to the Quad Cities River Bandits in a close one, 4-3, on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field.
Beloit got on the board first after Argenis Raga hit a sac fly to center field to plate James Harris. Things were going the Snappers' way as starting pitcher, Brett Graves, struck out seven River Bandits and had a shutout through four innings.
In the fifth inning is when Graves hit a brick wall, allowing three home runs but also striking out three batters. Two of the homers were solos and one was a two run home run, putting Quad Cities up 4-1. One of the batters did however reach on a wild pitch after striking out.
The Snappers then kept their eye on the ball in the bottom of the fifth as the River Bandits starter, Justin Ferrell, walked James Harris and Max Kuhn, both times with the bases loaded. That brought Beloit to within one run but unfortunately that is where the final score would stay, at 4-3.
Graves suffers the loss as he goes to 9-5 on the year with a 5.13 ERA. Carlos Navas and Koby Gauna did well in relief, combining for 4 1/3 innings and only allowing one hit. Navas is unscored upon since June 10th. He has pitched 16 outings and 26 1/3 innings since then.
Beloit is 40-62 on the year and 14-18 in the second half. They will try to close out the series against Quad Cities with a win tomorrow night at 7:00 PM before they welcome the Peoria Chiefs to town for three games.
