Columbus Reassigns Johnson, Motzko and Reich

Syracuse, NY (February 5, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned defenseman Aaron Johnson, right wing Joe Motzko, left wing Jeremy Reich to Syracuse.

Johnson, 20, appeared in five games with Columbus this season, recording one assist and two penalty minutes. Johnson, the Crunch's lone representative at the AHL All-Star Classic (February 1-9 at Grand Rapids) made his NHL debut with Columbus on December 2 against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. In 39 games with Syracuse this season, Johnson has recorded 5 goals, 14 assists and 50 penalty minutes. A native of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Johnson was Columbus' fourth pick, 85th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.

Motzko, 23, made his NHL debut on February 2 against Phoenix and appeared in a total of two games with Columbus since his February 2 recall , without recording a point. In 44 games with Syracuse this season, Motzko has recorded 11 goals, 14 assists and 22 penalty minutes. A native of Bemidji, Minnesota, Motzko was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 15, 2003.

Reich, 24, made his NHL debut on January 21 against St. Louis appearing in a total of 8 games with Columbus since being recalled on January 20, recording 1 assist and 20 penalty minutes. In 39 games with Syracuse this season, Reich has recorded 5 goals, 17 assists and 79 penalty minutes. In 232 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Reich has tallied 34 goals, 46 assists and 560 penalty minutes. A native of Craik, Saskatchewan, Reich was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 17, 2000.

Syracuse travels to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, February 6 for a 7:05 p.m. start.
