Colorado Eagles News Release
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
Tuesday, November 29; Carrozzi Re-Assigned to Ontario Reign
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets & the AHL's St. John's IceCaps, announced today that goalie Chris Carrozzi has been re-assigned to the Ontario Reign.
Carrozzi played in just one game for the Eagles this season, a 6-2 loss to the Reign on Nov. 5. As a rookie last season with Gwinnett, he went 16-20-6 with an .894 save percentage and a goals-against average of 3.23.
Friday, December 2; Grizzlies Get Goal in Last Minute to Claim Win Over Colorado
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies scored twice in the final five minutes to take a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Eagles in the first of three meetings in as many nights between the teams. They'll face-off Saturday & Sunday night in Colorado.
Saturday, December 3; Eagles Salvage Win After Another Late Utah Surge
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies, 5-4, in a shootout in the second of three games in as many days between the teams. After Utah scored two goals in the final five minutes to claim a comeback win Friday night, they nearly did the same as Paul McIlveen scored two third period tallies to notch a hat trick on the night.
Sunday, December 4; Grizzlies Flip Script With 5-4 Shootout Win
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles & Utah Grizzlies played their second 5-4 shootout game in as many nights, with the Grizzlies claiming the victory the second time around. The back-and-forth contest was the third in as many evenings between the two teams battling for placing in the ECHL's Mountain Division.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Wednesday, Dec. 7, Friday, Dec. 9 & Saturday, Dec. 10; Colorado Makes First Trip to Idaho
The Eagles (10-8-2) enter the week ranked 3rd in the Mountain Division, while the Steelheads (8-10-2) rank 4th. Colorado went 2-1-0 against Idaho late last month at the BEC, and will be making their first trip to Idaho for another three-game set. After this week, the divisional foes won't meet again until mid-February when they finish up the season series with a pair of games back in Colorado.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
EVENLY MATCHED - The Eagles and Grizzlies appear to be extremely evenly matched. Through 6 games, Colorado is 2-2-2 against Utah, good for a .500 record and six of a possible 12 points. Furthermore, all but one of the match-ups has been decided by a single goal, and the other was decided by two tallies. Three of the six games have gone to a shootout, the only shootouts the Eagles have been involved in all season.
LIKE FISH IN A BARREL - The Eagles had their way when it came to shots-for and -against last week versus the Steelheads. In the three games, Colorado out-shot Idaho 129-67, nearly a 2:1 margin. In the process, the Eagles set new season highs for shots in a game (46) and in a period (18), and tied a season low for shots allowed in a period (4).
LONG ROAD AHEAD - Not even one week into December and the Eagles have already taken care of half of their home slate for the month. Colorado will play 15 games in the final month of 2011, but just four of them will take place at the Budweiser Events Center. Two of those home games took place over the weekend, and the other two will come on the 17th & 23rd. The Eagles start a five-game road swing this week with three games in Idaho.
MOUNTAIN MANEUVERING - This month will have a big impact on early division rankings as the Eagles take on each of their three Mountain Division foes in 13 of their 15 games. Colorado will face Utah seven times, and Idaho & Alaska three times each. Entering the month, the Eagles were 3-2-1 within the division.
SOARING ABOVE THE REST - A pair of dynamic Eagles duos have soared to the top of the ECHL's statistical rankings. Jack Combs & Chad Costello are rank 1st & 2nd in the league with 32 & 31 points respectively. Aaron Schneekloth & Jon Landry rank 1st and 2nd among defensemen with 20 and 18 points respectively. The next closest forward is Greenville's Jeff Prough (25 points), while the next closest defensemen have 14 points.
BOTH ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM - The Eagles rank 2nd in the ECHL in goals-per-game with 3.60, but they rank last in goals-allowed-per-game with 3.65. Scoring and allowing basically the same number of goals should translate to a near-.500 record, and that's what Colorado has at 10-8-2 (.550).
OTHER HAPPENINGS
Holiday Store - With the holiday season upon us, we've once again opened a seasonal store at the Foothills Mall in Ft. Collins, giving Eagles fans another place to purchase team merchandise, tickets, and more for their loved ones this year. The store (located in the old Lady Foot Locker location) is open now and will close on Dec. 31. (http://www.coloradoeagles.com/news.php?nid1110)
Jr. Eagles Chicks - The Pioneer Press Colorado Eagles Chicks will be holding their annual Jr. Eagles Chicks clinics and performances in February and they're now accepting registration forms from dancers grades K-6. This makes a great gift, as each dancer will get the chance to dance with the Eagles Chicks at a game, along with a commemorative photo & video! (http://www.coloradoeagles.com/news.php?nid1131)
