Toledo Walleye News Release

Walleye Notes

- Past Week Performance: Toledo finished this past week with a 2-1-0-0 record in the three games played. The Walleye started the week with a 4-1 win over Chicago. Goaltender Carter Hutton stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced in the win. Friday night, Greenville out-shot Toledo 42-27 on the way to a 4-2 win. The Walleye rebounded on Saturday, posting another 4-1 win over Chicago. Aaron Lewicki scored his first two goals of the year to lead Toledo to victory.

- Victories! On the strength of its 2-1-0-0 week, the Walleye have now won seven of the last 10 games played. Toledo has also tasted victory in five of the first seven games in the current season-high eight-game home stand. The Walleye are 7-5-0-0 for the season on home ice. Toledo, Greenville (7-3-0-0) and Alaska (7-1-1-1) are the only teams in the entire ECHL to have at least seven wins in their last 10 games.

- Zapolski Shines! Toledo goaltender Ryan Zapolski was spectacular Saturday night in his first start in a Walleye uniform. The first year net minder stopped 27 of 28 shots against the Chicago Express to help the Walleye win 4-1. Not too bad for a guy who had only started only one other game this entire season (a 7-2 win November 6th against Chicago for Kalamazoo).

- Getting Physical! Saturday night saw Toledo set a season-high for penalty minutes with 45. Defenseman Joey Ryan led the way with 14, while defenseman Matt Krug collected 10 minutes thanks to his two fights. Phil Rauch also dropped the gloves for Toledo. The previous high for penalty minutes in a game for Toledo was 35 set back on October 21 at Kalamazoo. For the season, the Walleye are averaging 17.16 penalty minutes per game.

- Gametime! The Walleye will hit ice for three more games this week. The first is Friday night when the Walleye host the Cincinnati Cyclones. This is final game of eight consecutive home games for the Walleye. Toledo is 2-1-0-0 against the Cyclones this season, with the last win coming on November 25th (3-2). The Walleye travel to Cincinnati on Saturday night. Toledo lost 4-2 in Cincinnati on the 15th of November. Sunday afternoon, Toledo will return home to face the Kalamazoo Wings for the first time since October 21st (a 6-3 loss in Kalamazoo).

- Promotions! Friday night is another "Post Game Party with the Players", head to the Club Level following the game! Sunday features another "Kids Day" with the Walleye. Sunday will also give you a chance to meet Santa and it's a post-game skate with the players! Check www.toledowalleye.com for more information.
