Colorado Crushes Blazers 8-4

LOVELAND, Colo.- Riley Nelson had two goals and three assists in the Colorado Eagles 8-4 victory over the Oklahoma City Blazers Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. He became the first player in team history to reach 300 points with the Eagles. Ryan Tobler and Chris Hartsburg also had two goals each and Brad Williamson added three assists in the Eagles league-leading 36th victory of the season. The Eagles played with just 13 skaters on their bench for the eighth straight game and nine of the 13 players had points in their first eight-goal game since last season. Colorado is now 23-3-0 at home this season and they will take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. MST.

The Eagles jumped up on the Blazers early in the first period. Colorado had the first 10 shots in the game all in the first five minutes. Riley Nelson scored his first of two goals in the period on the Eagles 10th shot of the game on assists from Brad Williamson and Ed McGrane. Just 11 seconds later, Seth Leonard made it a 2-0 lead when he picked up the puck in the slot and beat Blazers' goaltender Sebastien Centomo glove side. The Eagles took a 3-0 lead at the 6:18 mark of the period when Nelson converted on a power play for his second goal of the period. He also assisted on Leonard's goal becoming the first Eagles player to reach 300 points with the team. Ross McCain cut the Eagles lead to two goals just over two minutes later on assists from Ryan Watson and Marty Standish. The Eagles held on to the 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.

Oklahoma City made it a one-goal game just 2:44 into the second period on a power play goal by Tyler Fleck, and they tied the game at the 7:37 mark on a goal by Marty Standish. The Eagles answered on a power-play goal that Chris Hartsburg tipped from an Aaron Schneekloth shot. The Eagles struck again before the period ran out to take a 5-3 lead on a Fraser Filipic goal when he took a Riley Nelson face off and beat Centomo for his third goal of the season. After two periods of play, the Eagles were outshooting the Blazers 32-24 and had a 5-3 lead.

Colorado continued to pour it on in the third period starting at the 1:24 mark on Chris Hartsburg's second power play goal of the game. Three minutes later Ryan Tobler stole the puck in the Blazers zone and beat Centomo for the Eagles seventh goal of the game. Less than one minute later, Oklahoma City scored to make it a 7-4 game on Marc Connors 11th goal of the season. Tobler scored his second goal of the period at the 15:05 mark to round out the Eagles rousing 8-4 victory. The Eagles finished the game outshooting Oklahoma City 51-36, they also scored three goals on their nine power play opportunities. Oklahoma City finished 1-5 on the power play as they remain in second place in the Northwest Division 17 points behind the Eagles. Final Score: Eagles 8 - Blazers 4.
