Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

If Ken McRae and the Rayz never see another 2-1 game, it will be too soon. Corpus Christi dropped their fourth game in the last 16 contests - all by a 2-1 final - at the hands of the Tulsa Oilers on Friday Night at the American Bank Center. Dave Rattray scored the decisive goal in the third period to give the Oilers the victory in the lone meeting this season. Corpus Christi's loss kept them in second place in the Southern Conference and dropped their record to 27-18-6. Corpus Christi had their three-game winning streak snapped with the defeat and will now look ahead to Tuesday Night's road contest versus the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.

The Rayz scored first for the fourth straight game when Derrick McIver collected a rebound and scored his 18th of the season at 12:09 of the opening period. McIver's goal was his 44th point, matching a career high set two seasons ago. The Rayz seemed like they would take a lead into the first intermission, however Tulsa tied it in the final minute of the frame. Rookie defenseman Justin Togiai scored on a rebound of his own after a delayed penalty was called against Rayz defenseman Chris Mei. Togiai's goal was his first with the Oilers in his 11th game for Tulsa. The Rayz outshot the Oilers 11-9, and the teams went to the locker room tied at one.

Corpus Christi and Tulsa played a scoreless second period, and the game went to the third deadlocked at 1-1. Tula outshot Corpus Christi 11-9 in the middle period.

Rattray tallied the difference making goal from the left circle shortly after a face-off at 3:50 of the final frame. The goal was the first third period goal allowed by the Rayz since February 1st, and was enough to lead the Oilers to the 2-1 win. The Rayz pulled Ron Vogel in search of the equalizer late, but could not find the game-tying goal.

Ron Vogel took the loss for the Rayz, making 31 saves on 33 shots. He fell to 17-10-3, losing for just the second time in the last eight decisions. Jason Montgomery earned the win making 28 saves and surrendering just one goal. He improved to 13-9-1 on the year. Tulsa's win, coupled with Wichita's loss moved them into a sixth place tie for the final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. The Oilers outshot the Rayz 33-29. The Rayz went 0-5 on the power play, snapping an 11-game scoring streak on the man advantage. The Oilers also went 0-5.
