Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds came into Friday night's game against the Wichita Thunder knowing that the Thunder was quick on the tails of the Hounds for the fifth seed in the CHL Northern Conference Playoffs. The Hounds made Wichita look like they were not even going to make the playoffs as they scored four goals in the first period on route to a 5-1 rout of the Thunder at the Chevy Centre.

Stephen Margeson got the scoring going early with his first of two on the night at 3:42 of the first period to make it 1-0. Jeff Christian scored his first of two on the night, this on the power play at the 13 minute mark to make it 2-0 Y-Town. Chris Richards made it 3-0 just 1:16 later with a power play goal of his own to be followed by another Margeson goal to end the period with Youngstown up 4-0.

Jeff Christian scored at the midway point of the second period to make it 5-0 and that was all the Hounds needed as Brad Roberts made 16 saves on 17 shots, only surrendering a Joe Blaznek goal in the second period to give the Hounds a 5-1 victory on Friday night.

The win gives the Hounds some breathing room on the Thunder as they improve to 22-16-8 (52pts), six ahead of Wichita who now sit at 20-20-6 (46pts). These two teams go at it again at 7:05pm as NASCAR weekend will conclude with the specialty jerseys being auctioned off after the game. Call (330) 747-PUCK for ticket information.
