Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Amarillo, Texas - The younger brother of Rocky Mountain Rage captain Dan Vandermeer, Bill Vandermeer, registered a natural hat trick on his way to a four-goal performance during the Amarillo Gorillas' 7-1 victory over the Rage at the Amarillo Civic Center.
The Gorillas drew first blood mid-way through the opening period on the power play. Austin Sutter had two or three whacks at a chance all by himself from right on the doorstep before finally lifting the puck past Rage netminder David Guerrera at 10:05. Amarillo then took a 2-0 edge at 12:59 when Joey Bastien was sprung on a partial break-away and managed to send a backhand past the blocker side of Guerrera.
The Rage cut the Amarillo lead in half at 5:22 of the second period after John DiPace set-up Clay Plume in the slot, who beat Shawn Conschafter five-hole. But the Gorillas quickly re-upped their advantage when the younger Vandermeer simply took over the game. The second-year pro struck twice at 11:34 and 15:03 to give his club a 4- 1 lead heading to the third.
Vandermeer completed the natural hat trick on the power play at 11:29 of the third to give Amarillo a 5-1 lead. Jason Chafe added another power play goal at 12:44 before Vandermeer recorded his fourth of the night at 19:05 for the 7-1 final.
With the loss, the Rage are now 11-30-5 overall with 27 points and in fourth place in the Northwest Division.
The Rage return home tomorrow to host the Oklahoma City Blazers at Broomfield Event Center at 7:05 p.m. The team will be wearing Mardi Gras-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game to benefit the Broomfield Event Center Foundation.
Tickets are still available for tomorrow's clash against the Blazers with prices ranging from $9-$40 per seat.
