LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks signed free agent forward Steve Simoes today. He will be in the lineup tonight as the Bucks battle the Lubbock Cotton Kings. Simoes played the last three seasons in Laredo and was an integral part of a pair of President's Cup Championships. Tonight is Fiesta Night at the LEC with the first 2,000 fans getting maracas courtesy of Taco Palenque. Face off is at 7:30 p.m. The Bucks are offering season tickets starting at less than $79. Simoes, spent the first part of the 2006-07 season with the Nottingham Panthers in the EIHL. In 40 games he registered seven goals and 16 points.
In 2005-06 he played 59 regular season games with Laredo and had 13 goals, 28 points and 78 PIMS. He was voted the third best defensive forward in the CHL Best of the Best poll. In the post-season he chipped in a pair of goal and eight points as the Bucks captured the title.
The native of Brossard, Quebec, began the 2005-06 hockey season in training camp with the ECHL Reading Royals, before returning to the Bucks. Simoes in 51 games in 05-06 scored 12 goals, had 18 assists and totaled 90 PIMS. Simoes scored nine of his 12 goals last season against Southeast Division rivals Austin, Corpus Christ and Rio Grande Valley.
In 2003-04 the 6'2" 205 pound forward scored 17 goals and totaled 34 points to go with 116 PIMs in his rookie campaign. In the playoffs Simoes scored four goals in 16 games as he helped the Bucks capture the President's Cup title. Simoes played college hockey for the University of Ottawa. He graduated with a degree in Economics.
2006-07 BUCKS SINGLE GAME TICKETS ON SALE
- Single game tickets for the Bucks start at $14.95. Of the 32 home games, 25 will take place on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Game times will remain the same for the 2006-07 season. Weekday games begin at 7 p.m., while Friday and Saturday night games are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday games will be at 4 p.m.
