Laredo goalie Kevin Reiter turned aside all 22 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as the Bucks snapped a four game winless streak. Laredo improved their Southern Conference best record to 29-13-5 with 63 points, and they lead Corpus Christi by four points with three games in hand in the Southeast Division race. The Bucks are on the road on Saturday and Sunday. Laredo returns home against Amarillo on Thursday. The Bucks will give away a pair of tickets to the sold out Mana concert. The Bucks struck first on a nice play by forward Jeff Bes. Bes stick handled down the left wall and behind the Lubbock net where he found defenseman Steve Weidlich cutting at the bottom of the right circle for a snap shot one-timer at 5:49. It was the fourth of the season for Weidlich, who scored with his parents and grandparents visiting from Edmonton, Alberta, in the stands watching him play. Just under three minutes later the Bucks made it 2-0. Defenseman Adam Rivet gunned a shot from the point that was redirected by forward Neil Clark for his third of the year at 8:39.
Early in the second period the Bucks had a five-on-three power play chance, but failed to add to their lead. The crowd was energized by a couple of thunderous hits by forward Steve Simoes in the frame.
The Bucks managed to add to their lead in the third on a power play chance as Bes snapped home a rocket of a wrist shot from the right circle just 16 seconds into the frame. The 16th goal of the season for Bes made it 3-0 Bucks. He has scored a goal in five of the last six. Later in the third Laredo put the game away on another power play chance. Forward Bobby Chaumont fed the puck rink wide to cutting defenseman Kris Mallette, who scored high glove side on a wrist shot to make it 4-0 at 14:00. It was his second of the year. Reiter turned aside all four shots he faced in the third to finish off the shutout. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Lubbock 0.
Reiter picked up his first shutout with the Bucks as he broke a four game losing streak and improved to 9-5-1. J.F. Perras allowed four goals on 43 shots and fell to 11-12-2. The Bucks were 2-10 on the power play while Lubbock went 0-7. Laredo out shot the Cotton Kings 43-22.
