Colorado Collects Two Points in 2-1 Victory at Rapid City

March 11, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

RAPID CITY, SD. - Eagle goaltender Lukas Hafner stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced, while forwards Ryan Olsen and Ryan Siiro netted goals in a 2-1 win over the Rapid City Rush on Saturday. In what was the final regular season game in Rapid City for Colorado, the Eagles grabbed two points in the standings, which keeps them seven points ahead of Idaho for the top spot in the ECHL's Mountain Division.

Rapid City forward Shaquille Merasty put the home team on the board first when he tracked down a rebound on top of the crease and fed the puck into the back of the net to give the Rush a 1-0 edge just 4:17 into the contest.

Colorado would tie things up less than four minutes later when Siiro drove the net and bashed a rebound in the low-slot past Rush goalie Adam Vay to level the score at 1-1. The goal was Siiro's first as an Eagle and first in the ECHL, after starting the season in the SPHL.

The Eagles would take their first lead of the game on the power play, as Matt Garbowsky would find forward Ryan Olsen at the bottom of the right circle and Olsen would snap the puck into the cage to give Colorado the 2-1 lead at the 13:40 mark of the second period.

Both teams would exchange chances in the third period, but neither goaltender would cede a goal, as the Eagles held on for the 2-1 victory. Colorado finished the night going 1-for-4 on the power play, while also going a perfect 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

The Eagles return to action when they take on the Rapid City Rush at the Budweiser Events Center on Sunday, March 11th at 3:05pm MT.
