Americans Win Fifth in a Row, Sweep Weekend in Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, Faced off against the Utah Grizzlies for the second straight night and their last match up against the Grizzlies in the regular season. The Americans defeated the Grizzlies 7-4 to extend their winning streak to 5, making it the Americans longest winning streak of the 2017-2018 season.

Vincent Arseneau opened up the game with a goal only 36 seconds into the 1st period. The Americans would then extend their lead on a power play goal scored by Bryan Moore. Vincent Arseneau and Campagna would head to the penalty box and the Americans would have to deal with a 5 on 3-penalty kill. However, Utah would fail to convert. Zach Pochior would score his 14th goal of the season to give the Americans a 3-0 lead before heading into the locker room.

The second period would start out with a fight right off of the opening faceoff between Josh Thrower and Jake Marchment. The grizzlies would get a goal off of an Americans turnover that was converted by Michael Pelech. However, the Americans wouldn't be deflated and continued to extend their lead with two goals before the end of the second period. Scored by Mike Gunn and Casey Pierro-Zabotel.

The Americans would start out the 3rd period on a power play but would fail to convert. However, Alex Guptill would score the Americans sixth goal of the night off a shorthanded goal giving Allen a 6-1 lead with less than 12 minutes in the 3rd period. It would only take Utah one minute and thirty seconds to respond with a goal by Kyle Thomas to cut the lead by 4. After the second goal Jake Paterson would be sent to the showers early and give Stephon Williams some playing time on the night. Utah would score two more goals in the 3rd period and would head into the final two minutes of play only trailing the Americans 6-4. However, Utah could not complete the comeback and the Americans would secure the victory. But not before a Spencer Asuchak empty net goal.

The Americans next will continue their road trip and faceoff against the Rapid City Rush on Wednesday, March 14. This will be the Americans 4th straight away game.
