Blackhawks Reassign Matheson Iacopelli to Rockford
March 11, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks announced Sunday that they have reassigned forward Matheson Iacopelli from the ECHL's Indy Fuel to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs.
Iacopelli, 23, registered nine goals and one assist in nine games with the Fuel since his reassignment on Feb. 22. The rookie has supplied the game-deciding tally in each of Indy's last three victories, including an overtime-winning goal on March 10 in Kalamazoo. A native of Brownstown, Mich., Iacopelli scored in each of his first three games with the Fuel, recording his first professional hat trick on Feb. 24 vs. Quad City.
In 40 games with the IceHogs this season, Iacopelli has nine goals, eight assists and a plus-6 rating. The third round selection of the Blackhawks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (No. 83 overall) spent the last two seasons at Western Michigan University. Iacopelli led the Broncos in point scoring in 2016-17, tallying 20 goals and 16 assists in 40 games. Prior to his college career, Iacopelli was a standout with the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks from 2013-15, tallying 101 points (64g, 37a) in 114 total USHL games.
The Fuel close out their weekend schedule Sunday afternoon at Huntington Center against the Toledo Walleye.
