Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 6, 2011) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that forward Jeremy Colliton has been named team captain for the 2011-12 season.
Colliton, 26, is the seventh captain in team history and wore the "A" for the Sound Tigers in each of his first five seasons with the team. The Blackie, AB native enters the 2011-12 season as the all-time leader in scoring and is tied for the all-time mark in assists.
"Jeremy Colliton exemplifies everything you want in a captain," said Sound Tigers head coach Brent Thompson. "From his approach to the game, to his professionalism and work ethic both on and off the ice, he has shown that he is a leader on this team. I'm proud to have him be a part of this group, and he's a guy I know our players can look up to."
Colliton joined the Sound Tigers last season on a professional tryout contract before signing a two-way deal midway through the season. The 6'2", 214-pound center notched 45 points (18 goals, 27 assists) in 53 games with the Sound Tigers as well as two goals and one assist in 15 games with the Islanders during the 2010-11 campaign.
Thompson also announced the assistant captains for the 2011-12 season. First year Sound Tigers Trevor Frischmon and Tim Wallace will wear the "A" on the road this season, while defenseman Dylan Reese and forward Justin DiBenedetto will serve as assistant captains at home.
The Sound Tigers regular season begins this Saturday, Oct. 8 when they host the Portland Pirates at 7 p.m. For full or partial season ticket plans as well as information on group outings, call the Sound Tigers at (203) 345-2300 or e-mail info@soundtigers.com.
