Checkers Finalize Roster, Name Sutter Captain

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today that Brett Sutter has been named team captain, and Nicolas Blanchard and Chris Durno alternates. Additionally, forwards Mike McKenzie and Justin Shugg have been assigned to the Checkers' ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

The transactions, along with yesterday's assignment of Riley Nash from the Carolina Hurricanes, finalize the Checkers' 22-man roster (attached) and they open the 2011-12 regular season tomorrow in Norfolk against the Admirals.

Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday's (7:15 p.m.) games in Norfolk will be broadcast live on WFNZ 610AM in Charlotte as well as at www.AHLLive.com. Tune in 15 minutes prior to puck drop for a pre-game show with Checkers' broadcaster Jason Shaya.

Opening night for the 2011-12 season is Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. when the Checkers host the Peoria Rivermen. The first 3,500 fans will receive a 3' x 5' house flag, courtesy of Time Warner Cable.
