Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Asheville Tourists scored eight runs in their victory over the West Virginia Power on Saturday night. All eight runs crossed the plate on two out RBI base hits, including four of them in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Tourists used six pitchers on the evening to hold the Power at bay.
West Virginia took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning but Asheville's Scott Burcham and Carlos Herrera notched back-to-back two out doubles in the bottom of the frame to even the score.
After the Power put one on the board in the fifth and scored two more in the top of the sixth, the Tourists offense went to work. Asheville scored the game's next seven runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, Yonathan Daza singled in Brian Mundell from second base to make it 4-2. With two outs in the seventh, Burcham doubled home a pair to erase the deficit. In the eighth, Sam Hilliard gave the Tourists the lead with an RBI double off the wall in right-center scoring Daza from first base. Hamlet Marte followed with an RBI single and two batters later Mylz Jones singled in two more.
Alexander Guillen earned the win by recording the final out of the eighth; a lineout with the bases loaded. Guillen followed with a perfect top of the ninth. Salvador Justo worked 1.2 innings in relief without allowing a run.
Devin Burke started for Asheville and pitched three innings. Burke struck out four and allowed only one run. Bret Helton pitched into the seventh inning for West Virginia but did not factor in the decision after the Burcham double tied the game.
The Tourists and Power meet for the final time this regular season on Sunday. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:05pm.
