Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
Clearwater, FL. - Dunedin went down early against the Cardinals, but they battled back to come away with the 6-3 win thanks to timely hitting, and a formidable bullpen.
It was a pitchers duel to begin the ball game as Graham Spraker went the first three innings without giving up a hit. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays were only able to muster up two hits in the same amount of time, so the stalemate continued through three innings. The Cardinals found their stroke in the 4th inning recording three hits and knocking in a run thanks to Julio Rodriguez. Spraker finished off the night just as he started with just one hit given up in the 5th inning, and striking out the last batter he faced looking.
Turner Larkins took over in the 6th inning, and the Cardinals tried to pull away from Dunedin who had only four hits in five innings. Another RBI for Julio Rodriguez made the score 2-0, and a second run snuck home due to a Kacy Clemens fielding error. The Blue Jays shrunk the lead thanks to an Alejandro Kirk RBI ground out. It was methodical from the Blue Jays as the used a walk for Samad Taylor and a single byNorberto Obeso to get runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly by Javier Hernandez made it 3-2 and kept Dunedin in striking distance.
The Blue Jays would need just one more inning to finally take control of the game for good. A couple of walks by Cal Stevenson and Kevin Vicuna would set the stage for Demi Orimoloye. He came through big with a base hit up the middle to tie the game at 3-3. The next batter would be Kacy Clemens, and he wouldn't be satisfied with a tie ballgame. He gave the 1-0 a ride to right field to give the Blue Jays a 6-3 lead that would hold up to end the night. It is Kacy's third time this season with the go ahead RBI in the final at-bat for the Blue Jays.
Emerson Jimenez had come in for the 8th inning to keep the Cardinals grounded, and he did just that giving up one hit in his two innings to earn his first win of the year out of the bullpen. He struck out two in the final frame to end the contest in Clearwater. The Blue Jays will try to go ahead in the series against the Cardinals at 6:30 tomorrow. It is a Jays Win You Win Saturday. If the Blue Jays win tomorrow's home game your game ticket can be used at Cobb Theaters Countryside as a free movie ticket. Some restrictions apply.
