Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Moises Gomez homered Friday, but the Lakeland Flying Tigers scored early and often to beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 10-3 at Charlotte Sports Park.
In a scoreless game in the top of the first, Brock Deatherage singled before stealing second. After a walk and a passed ball moved runners to second and third, Kody Clemens singled to left to give Lakeland a 2-0 lead.
Leading by 2-0 in the top of the second, Flying Tigers second baseman Chad Sedio was hit by a pitch before Jon Rosoff singled him to second. Two batters later, Brock Deatherage dropped a two-run triple into the left field gap to make it 4-0. After opener Justin Marsden (0-3) exited, Clemens reached on an infield single to score Deatherage and cap the inning at 5-0.
The Flying Tigers added two in the third before Dylan Rosa's three-run home run capped the night at 10-3.
Charlotte (38-33, 3-2) right-hander Stephen Woods Jr. turned in five solid innings in relief, allowing two earned runs while fanning four.
The Stone Crabs got on the board in the second when Gomez smashed an opposite-field home run to right to make it 5-1.
Charlotte scored on an error and a Taylor Walls single in the bottom of the fifth. Kaleo Johnson and Garrett Whitley both doubled to the wall in the loss.
With the four-game series even, the Stone Crabs will look to clinch at least a split against Lakeland at 6 p.m. Saturday. Jack Labosky (0-3, 2.93) is scheduled to kick off a bullpen day for Charlotte, against Elvin Rodriguez (5-3, 3.48) of the Flying Tigers. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
