Chris Owings Named Arizona's Organizational Player of the Month
June 3, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - Reno Aces infielder Chris Owings has been named the Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League player of the Month for May, marking the second-straight month he has garnered the honor, the organization announced today.
The selection of Owings and RHP Archie Bradley, who also earned the honor in April, marks the first time in club history the organizational player and pitcher have garnered the awards in consecutive months.
The 21-year-old Owings made his Triple-A debut with Reno this season, and hit .355 with six doubles, a home run, 14 RBI and three stolen bases for the Aces in May. He is currently riding a 21-game hitting streak, good for the longest active streak in professional baseball.
Owings, who entered the season ranked the D-backs No. 7 prospect by Baseball America, leads all of professional baseball in hits (87), with 12 more than any other Pacific Coast League batter.
The Charleston, S.C., native was drafted by the D-backs in the supplemental first round of the 2009 draft. He combined to bat .290 between Double-A Mobile and Single-A Visalia last season.
Bradley opened the season with Class-A Advanced Visalia, before earning a promotion to Double-A Mobile on May 2. He had an 18.0-inning scoreless streak from May 2-24, and his 0.79 ERA for the month ranked second in the Southern League.
