Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Sept. 29, 2014) - Chivas USA announced today that it will be celebrating a "Week of Gratitude" leading up to the Oct. 5 home game against Real Salt Lake. Beginning Monday, Sept. 29, the Red-and-White will partner with local and national non-profit organizations in a variety of community events aimed at improving the lives of many of its neighbors in the greater Los Angeles community.

"Our 'Week of Gratitude' does not come from a sense of obligation, but from a desire of the heart to help contribute to our various neighbors and constituents. We are grateful for our many partners and hope fans and volunteers will join us at our various activities this week," stated Chivas USA President Nelson Rodriguez.

Among the noted partners involved in Chivas USA's "Week of Gratitude" are local non-profit organizations such as Heal the Bay CA, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles Mission, Bresee Youth Center and Beyond the Bell, as well as national charity the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

A precursor to its "Week of Gratitude" Chivas USA hosted its second annual Coastal Clean-Up Day in conjunction with Heal the Bay CA on Sept. 20. Accompanied by over 200 volunteers, Chivas USA staff and players collected more than 100 pounds of trash in Venice Beach, while also educating fans about pollution and how to keep Southern California's beaches clean for future generations.

In addition to tackling environmental issues, the Chivas USA will be supporting and raising awareness on topics such as education, health and community involvement. First-Team players and technical staff, along with members of the front office, will be working together with Bresee Youth Center on Thursday, Oct. 2 and Beyond the Bell the following day to mentor youth and help them create a brighter future for themselves through education.

Other events involving members of Chivas USA include visiting children at the Children's Hospital on Monday, Sept. 29; building a home for a local low-income family with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles; and partnering with Los Angeles Mission in serving the poor on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and raising awareness to help eliminate homelessness in our community.

The club will culminate the week by hosting "Kids Night Out" on Sunday, Oct. 5 against Real Salt Lake. Thousands of underprivileged LA-based youth will be given the opportunity to attend the game for free due to the generosity of numerous organizations and individuals who have contributed to a "matching ticket" program. To date, Chivas USA has matched the purchase of 3,000 tickets by altruistic groups and people enabling at least 10,000 young fans the chance to attend a Major League Soccer match. Chivas USA will continue to match donations through Oct. 1.
