LA Galaxy Forward Landon Donovan Voted MLS Player of the Week

September 29, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, September 29, 2014) - LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 29 of the 2014 MLS regular season. This is the fourth Player of the Week honor for Donovan this season.

Donovan had a hand in each of the Galaxy's four goals in their 4-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, scoring one and assisting the other three.

In the 8th minute, Donovan notched his first assist on the night. With a bursting run from midfield, Donovan spotted Robbie Keane at the top of the 18-yard box and delivered a perfect ball to the feet of the Irish international. Wriggling free of his defender, Keane scored a lovely goal chipping the ball over Red Bulls goalie Luis Robles .

Donovan scored his only goal of the night, and second for the Galaxy, in the 50th minute. A cross into the box by Omar Gonzalez was mishandled by Red Bulls defender Chris Duvall affording Donovan the steal. Without thinking twice, the forward curled a shot in to the right side of the goal.

A second assist came in the 69th minute as a clever give-and-go play saw Donavan receive the ball from forward Gyasi Zardes at the center of the box. Donovan returned the favor with a one-touch pass to the cutting Zardes and the youngster snuck his shot by the diving Robles.

Donovan's final and MLS record-tying assist came in the 82nd minute of the game, again, to Robbie Keane. Donovan intercepted a pass and lobbed a ball from the center circle into the box, which found Keane who cleverly snuck behind the Red Bulls' defense. After his initial shot was mishit, the Irishmen showed fancy footwork and poked the ball into the back of the net.

LA Galaxy will play host to the Eastern Conference's Toronto FC this Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET (TSN, RDS2).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/ .
