Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs picked up their third consecutive win on Friday night as they topped the Seattle Thunderbirds at Spokane Arena, 4-2. Goaltender Dawson Weatherill turned aside 32 shots to earn first star honors.

The Chiefs got on the board first at the 11:13 mark of the first period as Carter Chorney scored his fourth goal in six games. Team-leading scorer Riley Woods weaved through the neutral zone before firing a sharp angle shot from the left corner that created a rebound chance which Chorney capitalized on.

Seattle tied it up early in the second as Zack Andrusiak converted shorthanded for his ninth of the season, with Jaxan Kaluski picking up the assist after forcing a turnover.

Spokane regained the lead for good at 1:26 of the third as overage defenseman Nolan Reid picked up his fourth of the year with a one-timer from the left circle off a perfect set-up from fellow blueliner Filip Kral.

Rookie forward Adam Beckman extended his lead in the WHL rookie goal scoring standings with his ninth of the year - and eventual game-winner - at 10:50 of the third. Eli Zummack raced down the left side before finding Beckman driving the middle for the finish.

The Thunderbirds continued to push, getting within one on Tyler Carpendale's backhand tally just 59 seconds later, but Reid potted his second of the night on an empty net with 50 seconds left in regulation to seal the victory for Spokane.

Weatherill finished 32-for-34 in goal while Seattle's Liam Hughes made 35 saves on 38 shots. Both teams were scoreless on the power play; Spokane went 0-for-4 while Seattle went 0-for-3.
