SPOKANE - The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Friday at Veterans Memorial Arena.
The T-Birds are back home at accesso ShoWare Center on Saturday at 6:05pm to play the Portland Winterhawks in a game that will be broadcast on JOEtv. JOEtv can be seen on Channel 22/Cable 110.

Seattle outshot Spokane 12-10 in the first period.
Seattle (7-9-3-0) tied the game 1-1 at 2:32 of the second period on a great individual play by Jared Kaluski while shorthanded. Kaluski blocked a point shot and raced a Spokane defenseman to the puck in the neutral zone. Kaluski muscled past the defenseman along the right boards to get the puck and into the offensive zone. Kaluski stopped up and turned back towards the blue and then turned again back down the wall. Kaluski found Zack Andrusiak charging into the slot with a pass. Andrusiak came in alone on Spokane goalie Dawson Weatherill and beat him through the legs with a backhand shot.
The Chiefs outshot the T-Birds 17-4 in the second period and led 27-16 in shots after two periods.
Nolan Reid scored at 1:26 and Adam Beckman scored at 10:50 to give the Chiefs a 3-1 lead in the third period.
Tyler Carpendale cut the Chiefs lead to one goal at 11:49 of the third. Carpendale got control of a loose puck and powered to the Spokane net. Carpendale lifted a backhand shot past Weatherill for his first goal of the season.
The T-Birds went on the power play with 3:24 left in the game. They got several good chances and with 30 seconds left on the power play pulled goalie Liam Hughes for an extra attacker. Just after the power play ended Reid sent the puck the length of the ice for an empty-net goal to secure the win for the Chiefs.
Seattle outshot Spokane 18-12 in the third period.
Hughes finished with 35 saves on 38 shots.
Weatherill had 32 saves on 34 shots.
