Raiders Blank Wheat Kings on Home Ice
November 17, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Prince Albert Raiders continue to roll.
Ian Scott turned aside 26 shots and the Raiders struck for three powerplay goals to blank the Wheat Kings 6-0 Saturday night at Westoba Place.
Winners of thirteen straight games, Prince Albert improved to 20-1-0 on the season while the Wheat Kings slipped to 10-5-3-3.
Thanks to some questionable first period officiating, the Raiders struck for two first period powerplay goals, including one with Brandon skating two men short.
Prince Albert outshot Brandon 20-5 in the first as the Wheat Kings were assessed five minor penalties.
Following a scoreless second, the Raiders closed out the scoring with four unanswered goals in the third, including one shorthanded and another on the powerplay. Prince Albert finished the night 3 for 8 with the man advantage while the Wheat Kings were 0 for 5.
Sean Montgomery scored twice for the Raiders, who outshot Brandon 46-26. Veteran Ian Scott picked up the shutout for the winners.
Rounding out the scoring for the winners were Carson Miller, Cole Fonstad, Noah Gregor and Brett Leason.
The Wheat Kings will be looking to bounce back Wednesday night when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings at 7pm.
Wednesday night is the first of two Rain Check games of the season, which means any unused 2018-19 Wheat King ticket will admit you to this game (regular box office fees apply).
Brandon will then close out its season high six game home stand on Friday night when the Lethbridge Hurricanes pay a visit to Westoba Place.
Members of the Wheat Kings will be wearing special agriculture theme jerseys on Friday and they'll be auctioned off throughout the game. All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will go to 4-H Manitoba.
Tickets to both games this week go back on sale Monday morning at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.
