Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs made a late rally, loading the bases with only one out in the ninth, but were unable to complete their comeback against the Clinton LumberKings, losing 5-2 Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 20-21 on the year heading into Monday's series finale.

After a scoreless first inning, the LumberKings threatened to score against Josh Lucas in the top half of the second, and were able to push a pair of runs across in the third. Clinton started the inning with three straight hits, the third of which scored Keith Werman and Dario Pizzano.

The LumberKings scored again in the sixth inning after consecutive batters reached base with one out. A Lucas wild pitch moved Tyler Marlette to third with Ketel Marte batting. Marte grounded into a force out at second base giving Marlette time to score and extending Clinton's lead to 3-0 after the top half of the sixth inning.

Clinton plated two more in the seventh inning after Werman led off the frame with a double. He advanced to third on a passed ball before Lopes was hit by a pitch. With two outs Patrick Kivlehan popped to right field, but Nick Martini lost the ball in the sun and was unable to make the play and both Werman and Lopes scored putting the LumberKings up 5-0.

The Chiefs finally got on the board in the eighth inning after Martini led off with a double. Gerwuins Velazco moved Martini to third on a ground out to second, and with Breyvic Valera batting relief pitcher David Holman threw a wild pitch, plating Martini.

Peoria threatened in the ninth as Jacob Wilson singled and Patrick Wisdom walked. With the bases loaded and only one out, Charlie Tilson cracked a line drive to second that was dropped by Wermen. However he recovered in time to retire Carson Kelly at second as Wilson scored to cut the LumberKings lead to 5-2. With runners on the corners and two out, Martini grounded out to second to end the game.
