Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Comstock Park, MI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-15) came away with a Sunday afternoon split after 15.5 innings of baseball against the West Michigan Whitecps (19-22) at Fifth Third Ballpark. In the completion of a suspended game from May 10, the Whitecaps jumped on the Hot Rods early in their 5-1 win. But in the latter affair, Taylor Guerrieri allowed just one hit a career high six innings as the Hot Rods coasted to an 8-0 win.
Sunday's initial action saw the Whitecaps score one run in second, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings against Hot Rods pitching in the game that was resumed in the bottom of the first. The Bowling Green offense was shut down in the game by Whitecap starter Yorfrank Lopez, who allowed just one run in six innings. The lone Hot Rods run was driven home by Tommy Coyle's RBI triple.
The second contest of Sunday's action was much more to the Hot Rods liking. Taylor Guerrieri did not allow a runner to reach second base and needed just 59 pitches to cruise through his career-high six innings of work. The 20-year-old righty walked just won and struck out three to pick up his third win of the season and his second consecutive victory.
The Hot Rods scored two runs in the top of the third in a rally that was started by Leonard Reginatto, who began the inning with a double to left field. After a Geoff Rowan walk and an Andrew Toles strikeout, Joey Rickard doubled down the line in left to score Reginatto. The next batter was Tyler Goeddel, whose 6-3 groundout scored Rowan to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead.
Bowling Green later put together its most productive inning at the plate this season, scoring six runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth. Toles, Goeddel, Luke Maile, Coyle, and Ryan Dunn all had RBI's in the frame that at one point saw seven straight Hot Rods reach base. Ten men in all came to the plate in the inning that gave the Hot Rods more than enough cushion in the 8-0 win.
The seven-game road trip concludes Monday at Fifth Third Ballpark as the Hot Rods and Whitecaps participate in the finale of their four-game series. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Jeff Ames (5-0, 1.22), while the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Endrys Briceno (0-3, 6.50). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst will begin at 9:30 AM CDT. Tune in to the game on 1340 WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com.
