Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs snapped their nine-game skid on Saturday night with a fast and furious 7-3 victory over the rival Tri-City Americans. The game saw six different Chiefs find the back of the net: Cade Hayes, Ty Cheveldayoff, Carter Streek, Chase Bertholet, Tommaso De Luca and Mac Gross.
The Americans were the first on the board with a power play goal at 2:44 from Lukas Dragicevic. Cade Hayes answered with a power play goal of his own with just eight seconds left in the first period to tie things up and it would be all Spokane until the second half of the final frame.
The Chiefs offense exploded in the second period, starting with a power play goal from Ty Cheveldayoff after Hayes found him right in front of the net. The power play goal came at 6:59, marking Cheveldayoff's eighth goal of the season.
Carter Streek followed that up at 15:18 with a lacrosse goal to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.
Spokane didn't stop there, scoring two more goals to close out the middle frame and secure a 5-1 lead heading into the second break. The first came from Chase Bertholet - his second point of the night - with assists for Cade Hayes and Saige Weinstein.
Italian-born forward Tommaso De Luca kept the momentum going with Spokane's fifth goal of the game less than a minute later at 18:34. Carter Streek and Brayden Crampton earned assists on the play.
The Chiefs kept the party going in the third period with two more goals within the first five minutes. Hayes found the twine once again for his second goal of the night at 2:38, and Mac Gross put the game away at 4:55.
Tri-City got two more, but it wasn't enough as Spokane came away with a long-awaited 7-3 victory.
Cooper Michaluk got the start in net and turned away 39-of-42 shots and notched his fourth win of the season.
Spokane went 2-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-9 on the penalty kill.
Up next, the Chiefs will travel to north of the border to take on the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, November 18 - their first trip to Canada since October 28 against Kamloops.
