Peoria, Ill. - Three Peoria pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Chiefs defeated the Dayton Dragons 6-0 on Thursday night. The Chiefs have won two-of-three games so far in the six-game series that continues through Sunday.

The Dayton loss ended a string of 17 consecutive games in which the Dragons had held a lead after the sixth inning. It was the first time the Dragons lost any game by more than one run since April 20, also a string of 17 games.

Peoria scored one run in the first inning, another in the second, and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Chiefs closed out the scoring with two runs in the eighth.

The Dragons were unable to generate much offense. Their best chance to score came in the fourth inning when Austin Callahan opened the frame with a triple, but he was stranded at third when the next three hitters were retired. Blake Dunn had two singles and a stolen base for the Dragons. Tyler Callihan also added a double. The Dragons were 0 for 8 with men in scoring position.

Dragons starting pitcher Javi Rivera (0-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on six hits over four innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Brooks Crawford followed Rivera to the mound and retired all six batters he faced, notching four strikeouts. Jayvien Sandridge worked the final two innings, allowing a pair of runs on four hits. He struck out two and did not surrender a walk.

The Dragons remained six games out of first place in the Midwest League's East Division, trailing first place Great Lakes, who lost to Lake County on Thursday night.
