Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs have selected Mikulas Rimmel, a 17-year-old forward from the Czech Repulic, with the 41st overall selection in the 2012 CHL Import Draft. Rimmel scored 11 goals and 29 points in 38 games last season for HC Vitkovice's under 18 team last season. Rimmel, born on September 21st, 1995, will be eligible for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
"Mikulas follows a pattern with the import draft in that he is a young player and will have the chance to develop with our organization," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said.
"We are comfortable with the process of committing to young players and having a big part of their development."
Spokane's last four import selections, including Marek Kalus who will be playing his third season as a Chief next season, and five of the last six, have played three seasons in the WHL; Michael Grabner (2004-07), Ondrej Roman (2006-09), Stefan Ulmer (2007-10), Dominik Uher (2009-12) and Kalus (2010-present).
"Mikulas has good skill, skates well and has a good feel for the game, all qualities that make us comfortable in his future with the Spokane Chiefs. We are very happy with this selection at the 41st pick," Speltz said.
