Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, Ill. - The Chiefs scored the first three runs and the last three runs of the contest Sunday to defeat Beloit 6-3 in the series finale.

Peoria jumped out to an early first inning lead on Father's Day. After a pair of hits from Jhon Torres and Malcom Nunez, Brady Whalen hit his eighth home run of the season, a three-run blast to left, to give Peoria a 3-0 lead. It was the first home run of the year from the right side of the plate for the switch-hitting Whalen.

Chiefs starter Nick Trogrlic-Iverson twirled five shutout innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. After Kameron Misner doubled to left, Troy Johnston hit his sixth home run of the year to make it 3-2.

Trogrlic-Iverson was lifted for Cory Thompson who allowed a homer to tie the game at 3-3.

Torres delivered again in the bottom of the seventh to give the Chiefs the lead for good. The outfielder hit his second home run of the season to give Peoria a 4-3 lead.

In the eighth inning, the Chiefs played add-on, thanks to back-to-back doubles from Tyler Reichenborn and Francisco Hernandez to make it 5-3. Torres then chipped in an RBI single to make it 6-3.

Paul Schwendel struck out two batters in the ninth and converted the save for Peoria in his second appearance with the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are off on Monday. They will head to Appleton, Wis. on Tuesday to kick-off a six-game series with Wisconsin.
