Chiefs Place First Rounder Jackson on DL

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that outfielder Brett Jackson has been placed on the disabled list with right wrist inflammation, retroactive to August 25. Jose Valdez has been added to the Chiefs roster from Short Season Boise and will join the Chiefs in time for Friday night's game in Cedar Rapids.

Jackson, the Cubs first round pick in this June's draft, joined the club on July 31 and has been a mainstay at the top of the order. In 24 games, the California University product is batting .308 with six homers and 16 RBIs to go along with 11 stolen bases. The left-handed hitting 21 year-old has scored 28 runs while posting an on-base percentage of .395 and a slugging percentage of .548. He is expected to be able to play in the Chiefs final regular-season home series against Kane County September 2-4 and be at full-speed for the playoffs.

Valdez, signed by the Cubs s a non-drafted free agent in August 2007 out of San Juan De La Maguana, D.R., was hitting .302 with 11 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 54 games for Boise. The switch-hitting outfielder is hitting .366 against right-handed pitching and enjoyed his best day of the season on August 8, when he went 4-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. The 6'1, 170 pound 20 year-old spent last year in the Dominican Summer League and hit .231 with three triples and 26 stolen bases in 58 games. Peoria and Cedar Rapids begin a four-game series in Iowa Friday night.
