DAYTON, OH - Joel Carreno tied a season-high with nine strikeouts over seven innings, and the Lansing Lugnuts (25-35; 51-78) took advantage of a sloppy Dayton Dragons (26-34; 54-76) squad with a 5-1 win on Friday night at Fifth Third Field.

The Dragons committed four errors in the game, leading to three unearned Lugnuts runs.

That was more than enough for Carreno (2-2), who was reached for only Miguel Rojas's RBI single in the second inning. The Dominican right-hander fanned Josh Fellhauer, Byron Wiley, Mike Konstanty, and Chase Weems twice each.

Yorman Mayora held Dayton scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings to record his third save.

Dragons starter Justin Walker (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Shea Snowden pitched the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on just one hit.

The game featured a 12-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The teams play the second affair in their four-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Right-hander Chris Holguin (1-3, 5.09) starts for the Lugnuts against Dragons right-hander J.C. Sulbaran (3-5, 5.20).
