Charlotte, NC (October 17, 2002) The Charlotte Checkers will open up a two-game Virginia road trip this weekend, beginning with a Friday night engagement with the Richmond Renegades. (WFNZ Radio â 610 AM â 7:15 PM) The road trip continues Saturday night in Roanoke against the Express at 7:35 pm.
VALENTINE & POWELL IN CHARLOTTE DEBUT: Two new Checkers will debut Friday night in Richmond. Center Curtis Valentine and defenseman Danny Powell were signed Wednesday by the Checkers. Both are in their second seasons in the ECHL.
MCKAY STILL OUT - Konrad McKay will miss the Checkers; road trip this weekend as he serves the final two games of his five-game suspension. McKay was assessed a five game suspension after he left the bench to enter a fight in the Checkers' pre-season loss to the Greenville Grrrowl.
CHECKERS LOOK FOR FIRST "OFFICIAL" WIN: The Checkers will look for their first official win Friday night in Richmond. Charlotte won their home opener last Friday night 5-2 over the Greenville Grrrowl, but forfeited the win as a result of unknowingly and unintentionally using an ineligible player.
CHECKERS' GAMES ON RADIO: The majority of Charlotte's road contests can be heard on Sports Radio 610, WFNZ, including Friday night's contest at Richmond. There will be no radio broadcast of Charlotte's Saturday night encounter in Roanoke, but the game can be heard on the Internet by logging on to the Checkers' web site at www.gocheckerrs.com.
