CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jeff Daniels, general manager and head coach of the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, today announced that the team has signed Gabriel Desjardins to a professional tryout contract.

Desjardins, 22, joins Charlotte from its ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades, where he has posted 12 points (7g, 5a) in 17 games this season. The native of Montreal, Quebec, begins his second stint of the season with the Checkers, having recorded one assist in five games under a previous tryout contract that lasted from Nov. 18-Dec 3.

Together with nine other games of experience with Lake Erie during the 2013-14 campaign, the only games he played at any level that season due to injury, Desjardins (6-foot-2, 212 pounds) has one assist and six penalty minutes in 14 career AHL contests.

In 297 career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games over five seasons with Halifax, Quebec and Rouyn-Noranda, Desjardins scored 185 points (85g, 100a). Undrafted, he previously attended NHL development camps in San Jose and Tampa Bay.

Desjardins is expected to be in the lineup as the Checkers begin a four-game home stand against the Oklahoma City Barons Tuesday at 7 p.m.
