Bulldogs Sign Shane Bakker to Pro Try Out

MONTREAL, QUE. - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have signed forward Shane Bakker to a professional try out contract.

In 22 games with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers this season, Bakker has recorded six points (three goals, three assists) and 31 penalty minutes while serving as team captain. In 71 career ECHL regular season games with the Nailers, the Navan, Ont. native has recorded 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) and 107 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro in 2013, the 27-year-old played five seasons (2008 to 2013) for the Carleton University Ravens in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. In 121 games with Carleton, the 6-4, 210-pound forward recorded 48 points (17 goals, 31 assists) and 398 penalty minutes.

Before university, Bakker played three seasons (2005 to 2008) in the Central Junior Hockey League with the Orleans Blues and Nepean Raiders. In 139 CJHL regular season games, he recorded 58 points (18 goals, 40 assists) and 175 penalty minutes. He also played in one game with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Gatineau Olympiques during the 2005-06 season, recording no points or penalty minutes.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 17 when they'll host the St. John's IceCaps at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
