Amerks Sign Defenseman Matt Pelech to PTO

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Matt Pelech to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Pelech, 27, has appeared in 10 games with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies this season, recording eight points (2+6) and 29 penalty minutes. Last season, he appeared in six NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, scoring one goal and adding 22 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Pelech also recorded four points (3+1) and 73 penalty minutes in 32 AHL games with Worcester.

In 386 career AHL games with Quad City, Abbotsford and Worcester, Pelech has compiled 52 points (18+34) and 1,073 penalty minutes. He has also played in 13 career NHL games with Calgary and San Jose. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Pelech was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the first round (26th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
