Checkers Murphy Called Up To Peoria

Charlotte, N.C. - Checkers forward Ryan Murphy has signed a Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.

Murphy, 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, suited up in 37 games for the Checkers this season totaling eight goals and 20 assist for 28 points. Earlier this season, he signed a PTO with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) and he dressed for nine games registering zero goals with one assist. Murphy was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings during the sixth round of the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on March 4 against the Gwinnett Gladiators. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $175.
