Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Devils have announced that the team will play host to the Kelly Cup during an upcoming week this spring. The ECHL's top prize will return to the city that won it in 2005 as part of a nationwide tour leading up to the league's playoffs.

The Devils will display the Cup during its games against the Wheeling Nailers and Dayton Bombers on the 20th and 21st of March. Fans are invited to come to the Devils' tables in section 114 of Sovereign Bank Arena to see the Cup, as well as take pictures with the highly-sought hardware.

This year will be the first in which the Kelly Cup tour comes to New Jersey, but the trophy has spent plenty of time in the city on the Delaware. Trenton won the ECHL's highest honor in 2005, ending the city's 56-year drought without a professional sports championship.

Rick Kowalsky, the current coach of the Devils, served as Trenton's captain during the title run. Assistant coach Vince Williams also played on the championship team. Current Devils Jim Henkel and Colin Pepperall have also won the prize. Henkel earned the trophy with Atlantic City in 2003 while Pepperall took it home with Greenville in 2002.

The Kelly Cup, standing at 19 3/8" tall and weighing 25 3/8 pounds, will travel to six cities in six states. It has already been displayed in Biloxi, MS, the home of the Mississippi Sea Wolves, and will travel to the arenas of the Jackals of Elmira, NY, the Gladiators of Gwinnett, GA, and the Bombers of Dayton, OH before coming to Trenton.

The Cup then makes its longest trip of the tour when it leaves the Capital City for Boise, ID to rejoin the reigning ECHL champions, the Idaho Steelheads.

The Trenton Devils are in the midst of a five-game road trip but return to Sovereign Bank Arena to begin a three-game homestand with a contest against the Elmira Jackals on Friday, March 7th at 7:30pm. Full and partial ticket plans for the 2007-08 season are available by calling 609-599-9500.
