BOMBERS NOTES
HITTING THE ROAD: The Bombers continue their 7 game road trip this week after facing Elmira and Reading. Tomorrow's matchup against the South Carolina Stingrays kicks off the Bombers 4 game streak against South Division teams (South Carolina- Tuesday, Charlotte- Thursday and Saturday, Columbia- Friday).
TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD: The Bombers swept their weekend series against the Elmira Jackals with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night. Chris Eade, Ryan Smyth and Ryan MacGregor tallied goals for Dayton while netminder Rejean Beauchemin took away the win. On Friday the Bombers defeated Elmira 4-3 in a shootout. Masahito Nishiwaki had two goals, Yannick Tifu had a goal and an assist and Brad Bonello had two assists on the night. Both Tifu and Matt Beaudoin scored for the Bombers in the shootout to give goalie Jeremy Duchesne his second win over the Jackals this season. The team is now 3-2-0-1 against the newest members of the North Division. However, it was the Reading Royals who broke up the Bombers three-game winning streak by handing Dayton a 3-1 defeat on Sunday. Beaudoin netted the Bombers' lone goal with helpers from Greg Labenski and Mike Walsh.
REJ ROCKS: Bombers netminder Rejean Beauchemin is on a hot streak, winning his last three starts and four of his last five with a 1.58 goals against average and a .956 save percentage. Beauchemin also picked up his second shutout of the season in that time frame, a 1-0 win over Trenton on February 9. He's been pelted with an average of more than 36 shots per game in those five games as well.
THAT KID'S GOT IT: Rookie All-Star Matt Beaudoin is continuing to put together one of the most impressive seasons the Bombers have ever seen out of a first year player. The Ohio State University alumnus has 11 points in his last nine games (7g,4a) and although his six game point streak was broken up this weekend, he's already back on track, tallying points in back-to-back games. Beaudoin still leads the league in goals (34) and is sixth in scoring (62 pts.), third amongst rookies.
GOING DOWN FIGHTING: When backstopping games in February, Jeremy Duchesne refused to go down without a fight. The rookie did not dropped a game in regulation in any of his 5 starts last month and posted a 2-0-1-2 record. Duchesne had a 2.06 GAA and .939 save percentage in February, his best averages of the season.
WELCOME BACK: Friday night saw the brief return of Bombers All-Star Yannick Tifu, who had been on loan to the AHL's Rochester Americans since February 2. Tifu made an immediate impact in Friday's game, scoring the first Bombers goal of the night and adding an assist to Masahito Nishiwaki in the second period. Despite missing more than a month of playing time due to call-ups this season, Tifu still ranks fifteenth in the league in scoring with 56 points (14g, 42a) and third in assists. He has returned to the Amerks for Saturday and Sunday's contests in New York.
NEWEST FACES: Since February 1, the Bombers added 4 players to their roster: Scott Kelman, Gary Klapkowski, Corey LeClair and Ryan MacGregor. In the last month, these four players have combined for two goals and nine assists. Kelman leads the charge with four assists, including a three-game assist streak.
LET'S TALK ABOUT SMYTH, BABY: Rookie Ryan Smyth has seven points in his last nine games, including a shorthanded goal and a game winner. Last Saturday's contest against Johnstown was Smyth's 5th multi-point game of the season. A first for the forward: his unassisted shorthanded goal was his first of the year (the team's 8th).
WHAT A BUZZ KILL: The Bombers were 13/15 on the penalty kill last week, an 86.7% efficiency rating. Friday night the Bombers were 5/7 on the penalty kill, Saturday they were a perfect 5/5 and on Sunday Dayton was perfect again, going 3 of 3.
MILESTONES: Here is a list of Bombers who are the verge of career ECHL milestones:
Brad Bonello: 2 goals shy of 50 career goals
Corey LeClair: 4 games shy of 150 games played
Yannick Tifu: 8 goals shy of 50 career goals
