Charlotte Checkers News Release
Charlotte, NCâ March 26, 2003: After many recent disappointments while watching the out-of-town scoreboard, Wednesday's games brought the Checkers some good news. In one of the toughtest division battles in history, four teams are fighting for three playoff spots in the division. Only Atlantic City has officia! lly clinched a playoff berth, while Richmond and Reading are in the position to play spoilers in the final week. The Renegades have won four straight and there's plenty of talent on the Royals for them to win their final three games.
Wednesday night, Richmond went to New Jersey and beat the Titans 4-1, while Greensboro scored two goals late at home to beat Roanoke 4-2. After the dust settled Wednesday, the Checkers found themselves in sole possession of third place in the division with two games remaining in their regular season. For the first time in the playoff stretch drive, the Checkers have their playoff fate in their own hands. If Charlotte wins its last two games at Greensboro and Richmond, a tough task, they'll secure at least fourth place and a playoff spot in the Northeast Division.
Charlotte will get back into action Friday night at Greensboro with face-off time set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WFNZ (610 AM), and over the Internet at www.gocheckers.com and on the telphone at 1-800-846-4700..code 2820.
