Checkers edge out Grrrowl, 1-0

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl fell to the Charlotte Checkers 1-0 in front of 7,432 fans at the BI-LO Center on Friday night. The Grrrowl played even with the Checkers until midway through the final period when Charlotte finally got on the board.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the first period. Greenville's Daniel Boisclair turned away ten first period shots. The Grrrowl put 13 shot on the Charlotte's Scott Meyer but were unable to find the back of the net. Both teams headed to the locker room hoping to find more offense in the second period.

The goaltenders continued to put on a clinic holding both teams scoreless through two periods of play. The Checkers outshot the Grrrowl 13-4 in second period.

Lucas Lawson broke the scoreless tie with an even-strength goal at 13:35 of the third period to put the Checkers up 1-0. Greenville outshot Charlotte 13-12 in the final period but were could not get anything passed Meyer. Boisclair made 34 saves in the loss.

The Greenville Grrrowl will be back on at the BI-LO Center tomorrow night when the play the first half of a home-and-home series against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
