Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho scored twice in a 67-second span early in the second period to break open a 1-1 game in an eventual 6-1 win over Alaska in front of 4,926 Friday night at the Bank of America Centre.

The hard feelings from Wednesday's stick-swinging incident when Dylan Gyori struck Alaska's Kimbi Daniels in the face boiled over in the first period, which was marred by a combined 77 minutes in penalties and nine power plays. Idaho scored on one of its five opportunities at 8:27 courtesy of a one-timer by Darrell Hay, set up by Gyori, but wasted numerous other chances to increase the lead. After failing to score on its first 11 power play opportunities of the series, the Aces finally broke through with 2:09 left in the period when Jordan Cameron tucked home a rebound of a drive by Jonathan Gauthier.

The Steelheads scored twice in a span of 67 seconds early in the second period to forge a 3-1 lead, as Sean Peach and Ben Keup both punched home rebounds at 2:22 and 3:27, respectively. Chris Slater's blast from the point sailed past a screened Dan Murphy with 1:34 left in the frame, giving Idaho a 4-1 bulge heading to the final 20 minutes. Murphy was under heavy fire in each of the first two periods, as the Steelheads outshot 25-11.

Alaska, perhaps emotionally spent, managed just four shots in the third period for a season-low of 15 on the night. Meanwhile, Idaho tacked on two more goals, Brent Draney's wraparound at 9:11 and Dave Cornacchia's shorthanded tally with 1:28 remaining to provide the final margin. The 6-1 loss matched the worst drubbing endured the Aces all season—the Steelheads (32-16-7) also beat Alaska 6-1 November 15 at the B of A.

The Aces (30-21-4) play Idaho for the final time during the regular season tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. AST. Saturday's rubber match in Boise, as well as Alaska's next five home games (beginning Tuesday vs. Bakersfield), will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
