Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - The Checkers were winners of their past three games but were unable to carry momentum into Augusta as they dropped a 4-2 contest to the Lynx.

Working a power play in the late stages of the first period, the Lynx would strike first. It was Louis Goulet beating Charlotte goalie, Chris Holt on a deflected shot at 19:06.

A shorthanded goal would start things off well for the Lynx as Chase Watson was the recipient of rebound shot by Matt Christie who was streaking down the right wing boards. This gave the Lynx a 2-0 lead at 2:11. Charlotte would answer back during a power play in the late stages of middle frame. Checkers defenseman, Kenton Smith wired a shot that found its way through traffic and between the legs of Augusta netminder, J.P. Lavasseur at 19:16. This slashed the Lynx lead to 2-1, but Augusta wouldn't have to wait long to recapture their two goal advantage. With only four seconds left in the period, Anthony Battaglia buried a sharp angle shot on Holt and the Checkers would skate off down two goals.

During the final period, Charlotte would creep back to within a goal on the power play after Mark Lee blasted a one-timer behind Lavasseur at 13:00. It wouldn't take very long for Augusta to regain a two goal lead on a two-on-one break. Travis Fuller took the nice pass from Christie and slid it past Holt at 14:34 giving Augusta enough for their 4-2 victory.
