Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- In front of Parkview Field's second sell-out crowd of the season, the TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons, 9-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

Designated hitter Henry Charles nearly hit for the cycle in the losing effort, falling just a home run shy. Meanwhile, Fort Wayne pitchers struck out a season-high 12 batters.

Ultimately, though, this was not a good day for the Summit City's squad.

Dayton (11-9) raced out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Walker Lockett (L, 0-3). After the TinCaps' bullpen held strong for five frames, the Dragons added two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Not to be lost along the way, right-handed reliever Yimmi Brasoban K-ed six over 4 2/3 innings while not allowing a run.

Fort Wayne (5-12) didn't score until there were two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. That was when Charles hit a triple off the wall in centerfield to plate Franmil Reyes. Dragons starter Tejay Antone (W, 1-2) blanked the TinCaps for seven innings.

Of note offensively, center fielder Michael Gettys had two hits, including a double. Fort Wayne had nine hits overall -- three of which were doubles. The TinCaps lead the Midwest League with 38 doubles as a team despite playing three games less than everyone besides Great Lakes.

Wednesday's crowd of 7,158 -- most of whom were school children on hand as part of the TinCaps Reading Program presented by Longe Optical -- marked the largest turnout at Parkview Field so far this year.

The finale of this three-game series in Fort Wayne is set for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The TinCaps are slated to start left-hander Thomas Dorminy (1-2, 6.60), who's coming off a win in his last outing, against Dayton southpaw Seth Varner (3-0, 2.65). The game can be seen on Comcast Network 81, and heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
