Sheffield Shines in Captains Win

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) -Justus Sheffield went into his start Wednesday night looking for a bounce back after a rough outing in his last start. He got a big bounce back win as he struck out eight and allowed just two hits as he picked up his second win of the season. Dorssys Paulino and Francisco Mejia each homered as the Lake County Captains beat the Lansing Lugnuts, 2-1.

Sheffield wasted little time in establishing his dominance. He faced just one over the minimum through the first, allowing just a double to Rowdy Tellez. During the stretch, Sheffield struck out four consecutive Lugnuts.

The Captains would get all their runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. With one out, Paulino connected on his first homerun of the season, a solo homer to right centerfield. Mejia followed and lined his first homerun of the season to rightfield for a 2-0 lead.

Sheffield would exit after the 5th inning, leaving with eight strikeouts and no walk.

Thomas Pannone followed Sheffield and after a perfect inning of relief, he would allow the Lugnuts to get on the board. Gunnar Heidt would reach on a fielder's choice before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. Justin Atkinson would then deliver an RBI single to cut the Captains lead to 2-1.

JP Feyereisen would come on to finish the game with a perfect 9th inning.

Sheffield (2-1) earned the win going 5 innings. He allowed 2 hits and did not walk a batter while striking out 8. Pannone went 3 innings in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Pannone walked 2 and struck out 5. Feyereisen (4) earned the save in 1 inning of relief. He did not allow a hit, run or walk and struck out 1.

The Captains will go for the series win on Thursday night when they send Jordan Milbrath (0-2) to the mound. The home stand concludes with Thirsty Thursday, presented by Labatt and ESPN 850 WKNR. Thirsty Thursday features a .25-cent Labatt Beer Happy Hour for one hour before game time and half-price domestic draft beer until 9 PM and half-price soda all game long. Game time is 6:30. As part of Thirsty Thursday, the Captains will offer an all-you-can eat wing and pizza buffet outside the Corona Castaways Bar for only $14.

Thursday will also feature an All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet in the Captains Cove, the Captains newest luxury area located on the suite level of Classic Park. The $25 ticket includes admission to The Cove, an all-you-can-eat buffet and non-alcoholic beverages.
