Cougars Snatch Game Two from Bees

(Burlington-IA)- The Kane County Cougars scored three unearned runs to comeback and defeat the Burlington Bees, 5-4, in game two of the series, Wednesday night at Community Field.

The Burlington Bees jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jake Yacinich led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to center and moved to second on a Caleb Adams single. With one out, Fran Whitten shot a single to left, scoring Yacinich, giving the Bees the lead.

Keynan Middleton held the Kane County Cougars off the board until the fourth inning. Colin Bray led off the frame with a walk. With one out, Bray moved to second when Grant Heyman was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Cody Regis smacked a single to left, scoring Bray, tying the game at one.

Marty Herum doubled to start the fifth inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sergio Alcantara, putting the Cougars on top, 2-1.

The Bees sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Caleb Adams was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then came around to score on an Andrew Daniel double, tying the game. With one out, Natanael Delgado gave the Bees the lead with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Brandon Gildea struckout swinging on a wild pitch that would score Zach Houchins, upping the Bees lead to 4-2.

Kane County went on to tie the game in the seventh, with a pair of runs. Cody Regis put the Cougars on top for good with a single up the middle, in the eighth inning, scoring Grant Hayman from third, making the score 5-4.

Zac Curtis (1-1) picked up the win in relief, while Jonah Wesely (0-1) was charged with the loss.Mason McCullough (4) earned the save.
