
Bees Fend off Cougars in Opener

(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees defeated the Kane County Cougars, 5-4, in the series opener on Tuesday night at Community Field.
Kane County jumped on the board in the first inning. Colin Bray led off the game with a double and came around to score on a throwing error on Bees' pitcher Jeremy Rhoades, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Caleb Adams doubled to right. After everyone was safe on a fielders' choice, Fran Whitten hit a groundball to the right side, scoring Adams, tying the game at one.
After Marty Herum gave the lead back to Kane County with a homer, the Bees put two on the board in the second. With one out, Wade Wass doubled and later scored on an Exicardo Cayones single. Ryan Seiz, who was hit by a pitch came home to score on a Cougars error, putting the Bees on top 3-2.
After Kane County tied the game at three in the third, Natanael Delgado singled to right field, scoring Fran Whitten, putting the Bees back on top, 4-3. The Bees added another run in the fifth inning, on another Kane County error, upping the lead to 5-3.
Tyler Carpenter and Eduardo Parades combined to throw 3.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen helping the Bees secure the 5-4 win.
Jeremy Rhoades (3-0) picked up the win while Cougars' starter Brad Keller (0-3) was charged with the loss. Eduardo Parades (5) notched his fifth save of the season.
