Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (9-7), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated, 107-83, by the Bakersfield Jam (10-6) Tuesday night in front of 3,081 fans at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The loss ends the season series at one win each between the two teams and also snaps a four-game home winning streak for the Charge.
After Canton held a 21-19 lead following the first quarter, Bakersfield caught fire offensively in the second. The Jam hit 13-of-18 shots as a team (72%) for 33 points, matching the most the Charge have surrendered in a single quarter so far this season, and the visitors held a 52-41 advantage heading into intermission.
The Charge responded well out of the break, cutting the lead to two on a 15-6 run to begin the third stanza. Brandon Paul played a large part in the Charge run with 10 points in the third quarter. Canton kept within single digits for much of the third, but could never pull ahead as the Jam finished the quarter on a 12-2 run to hold a 83-68 lead heading into the final period.
A balanced attack from Bakersfield in the fourth quarter stifled any opportunities the Charge had to gain an advantage. The Jam shot a sizzling 11-of-19 from the field in the final period (58%) while putting a lid on Canton's rim for just 5-of-18 field goals for the hosts (28%). An impressive defensive effort on behalf of the Jam held the Charge to just 15 points in the fourth en route to the victory.
Arinze Onuaku posted his seventh double-double in 10 games with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. Stephen Holt provided 16 points and four assists in 34 minutes for the Charge. Michael Dunigan scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting with nine boards and a block in 38 minutes. Paul finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and a steal in 34 minutes of action.
Assigned to the Jam by the Phoenix Suns, Archie Goodwin lead the way with a game-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting (67%) in 32 minutes of action. Jam reserve guard Casey Prather provided 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting (60%) off the bench in 23 minutes. Mac Koshwal added 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting with eight boards and two steals in 33 minutes.
