Club de Foot Montreal News Release

AUSTIN, Texas - For the first time in its history, CF Montréal will visit Austin FC this Saturday at 8:30pm ET at Q2 Stadium in its second match of 2023 (MLS Season Pass, BPM Sports, CJAD 800).

Montreal will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss away to Miami last Saturday. In that game, several players logged their first-ever minutes with the Club including Aaron Herrera, Chinonso Offor, Sean Rea, Nathan Saliba and Jonathan Sirois. In addition, including Mathieu Choinière and James Pantemis, a new Club record was set for the number of Homegrown players used in a single game for a total of five.

Saturday will also be an opportunity for midfielder Samuel Piette to inch closer to setting several new team records. Firstly, with his 90 minutes played in Miami last weekend, Piette has accumulated 11,415 regular season minutes with Montreal. He is now only 12 minutes away from tying the all-time Club record held by Nacho Piatti, at 11,427 minutes. The veteran is also closing in on the record for most regular season starts. Piette currently ranks second with 128 starts, while Piatti also sits atop that category with 130. Lastly, Piette is only seven games (144) shy of the team record held this time by Patrice Bernier (151) for most regular season games played in MLS.

The last and only meeting between the teams came on June 18 of last year in a narrow 1-0 Montreal loss at Stade Saputo. That night, the Texans, through a 67th-minute game-winning goal by Maxi Urruti, earned all three points despite playing more than half the game with 10 men.

Austin FC will also be looking to quickly get back on track after losing its home opener last Saturday, 3-2, to expansion team St. Louis CITY SC. Sebastián Driussi and Jon Gallagher scored for Los Verdes on that night.
